Concealed Hinges for Every Cabinet Type

A concealed hinge sits entirely inside the door and cabinet when the door is closed. From the outside you see only the door face. STONN auto hinges cover the standard opening angles and mounting configurations needed for kitchen, wardrobe, and furniture cabinets.

How Concealed Hinges Work

A concealed hinge has two main parts: the cup that sits in a 35 mm hole in the door, and the mounting plate that screws to the cabinet side panel. The hinge arm connects the two and allows the door to swing open. Adjustment screws on the mounting plate let you move the door in three directions - up and down, left and right, and in and out - without removing the door.

This adjustability is one of the main reasons concealed hinges replaced surface-mounted hinges in most cabinet furniture. You can hang all the doors, then fine-tune each one until they are all aligned before tightening the final screws.

Opening Angles

95-Degree Hinges

The standard opening angle for face-frame and full-overlay doors is 95 degrees. The door swings open far enough for clear access to the cabinet interior without touching an adjacent door or wall. This is the most common hinge in Indian kitchen cabinets.

110-Degree Hinges

A 110-degree hinge is used for inset doors that sit inside the cabinet opening or for semi-overlay where the door overlaps the frame by only a small amount. The wider opening compensates for the reduced swing arc caused by the door position. It is also the right choice when two doors meet in the middle of a tall cabinet and each door needs to clear the other when fully open.

165-Degree Hinges

Corner cabinet doors and appliance garage doors need to open flat against the adjacent cabinet panel. A 165-degree hinge allows the door to open nearly 180 degrees so it lies completely out of the way. Without this hinge angle, a corner door would block access to the cabinet when open.

Soft-Close Auto Hinges

The auto hinge version of each opening angle includes the built-in hydraulic damper described in the Hydraulic Solution section. The hinge closes itself from about 20 degrees with a controlled slow movement. This is different from a standard spring hinge which snaps shut - the auto hinge arrives at the closed position with a cushioned stop.

The closing force is factory set at the median for standard cabinet door sizes. For very heavy solid wood doors, a stronger spring version with a heavier damper is available on request.

Installation

Installation requires a 35 mm Forstner bit to drill the cup hole in the door. The drilling depth is 13 mm, which is standard for 18 mm thick doors. The mounting plate screws to the cabinet side with two screws at the standard 37 mm or 48 mm setback distance depending on the overlay requirement.

Hinges are supplied in pairs and include the mounting plates. Clip-on mounting plates that allow the door to be removed without tools are available as an upgrade for situations where the cabinet door needs to be removed frequently for cleaning or access.

Finish

STONN concealed hinges are available in nickel-plated and matt black finishes. The nickel finish is the standard for most Indian kitchens. Matt black suits dark handle-free kitchen designs or furniture where the hinge cup is visible on the door interior.
