Sliding Door Hardware for Wardrobes and Room Dividers
A sliding door system needs tracks that stay true, rollers that do not jam, and guides that keep the door upright without squeaking on the floor. STONN sliding fittings cover the hardware for wardrobe sliding doors, sliding room partitions, and bypass doors for alcoves and storage areas.
Top Track Systems
The top-hung sliding system carries the door weight on an aluminium track fixed to the ceiling or the top of the wardrobe frame. The floor guide is only for alignment - it keeps the bottom of the door in the right position but does not carry any load. This means the floor guide does not need to be set into a groove in the floor and is easy to clean.
Track lengths are available from 900 mm to 3600 mm. For wardrobes wider than 3600 mm, two tracks can be joined with a connector piece. The track cross-section is a standard profile that accepts the STONN roller assembly and is also compatible with most standard roller fittings from other manufacturers.
Roller Assemblies
The roller assembly is the part that attaches to the door and runs along the track. STONN rollers use a sealed steel bearing that does not require periodic oiling. The bearing is rated for more than 100,000 door cycles. Each roller has a height adjustment range of 10 mm so you can level the door after hanging without moving the track.
Standard roller capacity is 25 kg per door leaf. For solid wood or glass doors up to 40 kg, a heavy-duty roller is available. The heavy-duty version uses a larger bearing diameter and a wider contact wheel to spread the load over a longer section of track.
Soft-Close Buffers
The soft-close buffer fits at each end of the track. When the door approaches the end stop, the buffer absorbs the last 80 mm of travel and decelerates the door to a stop. Without a buffer, a sliding door that is pushed firmly will hit the end stop and bounce back, which is both loud and wears the door edge over time.
The buffer mechanism is a small hydraulic cylinder, the same type used in the hydraulic hinge range. It is rated for 80,000 slow-close cycles before the damping effect becomes noticeably weaker.
Floor Guides
The floor guide for a top-hung system is a low-profile channel that clips to the floor or to the bottom shelf of a wardrobe. The door bottom edge has a nylon guide inserted in a groove that runs in this channel. The channel is 6 mm wide and 8 mm tall - low enough that it does not catch on socks or snagged clothing when walking past.
For situations where any floor fitting is not acceptable, a wall-mounted bottom guide is available. This mounts to the skirting board or the wall at floor level and has a wider contact area to keep the door in position without a floor fitting.
Bypass Doors
A bypass door system has two or more doors on parallel tracks so each door can slide past the other. It is used for wide wardrobe openings where a single door would be too heavy or where a full-width opening is not needed. The standard two-door bypass system uses two separate top tracks mounted side by side with the doors at different distances from the back of the wardrobe.
Installation Notes
All STONN sliding fittings are designed for installation by a carpenter rather than a factory-fitted system. Tracks are supplied with pre-drilled fixing holes at 200 mm centres. The roller assembly clips to a standard T-bolt that fits in the track groove so doors can be hung and removed without tools for fitting the track first.
